N.Z. AUTOMOBILE UNION
ANNUAL CONFERENCE. (Per Press Associati n.) WELLINGTON, Oct. 1. The annual conference of the New Zealand Automobile Union is being held. The annual report stated that progress had' been made with the hotel concession scheme and a considerable list was now available, so that the plan would be put in working order before the summer touring season opens. Remits adopted were—That the Government be again urged to establish a motor cycle patrol branch for better control regarding lights on vehicles, w andering cattle , and dangerous driving; that the Lights on Vehicles Act be amended giving local bodies discretion to appoint certain well lighted parking places where cars may be left unlighted. A remit was carried; That subject to the formation of a New Zealand executive the New Zealand Automobile Union change its name to the North Island Automobile Union. On the Question of dazzling headlights, remits were carried protesting to the Minister against certain motorists being prosecuted for not dimming their ’ights. The Union considers the practice of dimming, except in well-lighted streets, should not be encouraged, for grave danger lies in such practice owing to the human eye not being able to refocus sufficiently quickly enough to meet the altered light. At the New Zealand Autombolie Association Conference the following officers were elected: —President, W. H. Boak (Wairarapa); vice-president, A. J. Toogod and A. Grayson (Auckland); executive, A. Donne, L. A. Edwards, H. A. Moss (Wellington); 11. B. Waldie (North Taranaki); F. Goldberg (Wellington); secretary and treasurer, H. J. Stott; auditors, Kembler and Son. It was decided to hold the next annual meeting in Wellington.
