CHRISTCHURCH, Oct. 1. At Addington, the market to-day was very firm, with an advance in all principal sections of stock. Particularly was this the case in the fat cattle sectio i, the advance, however, being largely due in this case to smaller entries. Store sheep firmed up as a consequence of the good rains of the week-end, ewes and lambs being several shillings per head better.
Spring Lambs.—One hundred and two were penned. There was a good sale at from 28s to 35s (id.
Store Sheep.—A small entry, and a particularly spirited sale, there being an all-round improvement in values. A pen of well woolled first cross soundmouthed ewes, with 150 per cent, of lambs, sold at 32s 2d (all counted). Values all round were up—as the result of the break in the dry weather —by several shillings per head. Exceptionally good halfbred ewes, with lambs, 32s 2d (all counted); good sounduiouthcd crossbred ewes, with lambs, 275; good aged ewes, with forward lambs, 26s 3d; fair aged ewes and lambs, 20s to 225; low conditioned, in ferior aged ewes and lambs, 16s 6d to 19s 8d; good three-quarterbred ewe hoggets, 36s to 375; crossbred m:xed-.«*x noggets, 32s 6d; forward three-quarter-bred wether hoggets, 365; shorn 4 and 6-tooth half bred wethers, 27s 7d to 28s; 4 and 6-toothed halfbred wethers, 36s to 37s 6d.
Fat Sheep.—A slightly larger yarding, and a very firm sale. On an average, values were up on last week 2s per head. Extra prime wethers, 60s; prime, 52s 6d to 57s .6d; medium, 48s 6d to 51s lid; light, 41s to 46s 6d; extra prime ewes, 57s lOd; prime, 46s 6d to 51s; medium, 42s 6d to 46s 6d; light, 37s 6a to 41s 6d; aged, 22s 6d to 38s 6d. Eat Cattle. —The smallest entry of the season, comprising 320 head, of which a small consignment came from the North Island, and another from the Coast. There was a “hot” sale, values being up by 5s per lOOlbs. In some cases up to 52s 6d per lOOlbs was realised. . Prime medium weights inane 44s to 48s per lOOlbs; prime heavy weights. 42s to 465; ordinary medium weights, 41s to 435; light, 36s to 40s; and rough down to 255. Extra prime heavy-weight bullocks, £l9 10s to £26 15s; prime steers, £l6 10s to £l9 ss; medium, £l5 to £l7 ss; light, £l2 15s to £l4 15s; rough, £8 10s to £l2; extra prime heifers, £l4 5s to £l5 10s; a few special, £l6 to £lB 15s; prime, £l2 to £l7; ordinary, £8 10s to £ll 10s; extra prime cows, £l4 to £l6 17s 6d; prime, £ll 3s to £l3 15s; medium. £9 to £11; aged, £5 to £B. Vcalers. —A small entry and a good demand, with prices in advance of last week. Runners, £7 10s; good vcalers, £4 10s to £6; good calves, £7 10s to £4 ss; small calves, 12s 6d to 355. Store Cattle.—A small entry, mostly cows and heifers, and an average demand. Best cows and heifers, £2 to £1; medium, £1 5s to £1 15s; inferior, 15s to 20s. Dairy Cattle—A slack demand in the opening stages, with an improvemen I later. Best heifers, £8 to £lO 10s; third and fourth calvers, £8 to £9 10s; medium heifers, £5 to £7 10s. Fat Pigs.—A medium entry, but maxket scarcely so good as last week. Choppers, £3 10s to £6; light baconers, £1 10s to £5 ss; heavy, £5 10s to £6 (average price per lb, 8d to 9d) ; light porkers, £2 10s to £2 15s; heavy, £3 to £3 14s (average price per lb, 8d to 9Ad). Store Pigs.—A large entry. Exceptionally keen demand. Weancrs, 26s to 325; small stores, 32s to 40s; medium, 45s to 50s; large, 55s to 635; sows in pig, £5 10s to £5 17s 6(1.
