BRITAIN’S FINANCES
A BAD HALF-YEAR. EXPENDITURE EXCEEDS REVENUE BY 12 MILLIONS. Received October 1, 9.5 p.m. LONDON, Oct. 1. Revenue returns for the first half year, to September 30, show that the revenue was nearly twelve million below expenditure, compared with a surplus of three millions of revenue above expenditure in the corresponding period of 1923.
Newspapers give prominence to the figures in view of Labour administration, but they point out that it is not safe to draw definite conclusions, as the second half-year may possibly alter the position.
