AMUSEMENTS, MEETINGS, ETC.

WANGANUI ORCHESTRAL SOCIETY. A final reminder is given to the public of the above Society’s concert to be held in the Opera House tonight at 8 o’clock. The programme is full of interest and some of the items have not been played before in Wanganui. Sullivan's “In Memorial!" has not been heard here for many years. It was written by the composer after the death of his father, to whom he was greatly endeared. The Society has chosen this item as a tribute to its late conductor and patron, Mr F. Leslie Peek, who did so much for the Society and music in general in Wanganui. Space will not permit a description of all the items, but as usual, Mr Hutchens gives a synopsis in the programme. Miss Myra Sawyers has again been engaged by special request for the vocal section, and will no doubt receive a cordial reception. Miss Naumann will accompany Miss Sawyer in the latter’s solos." The box plan is now open at Messrs H. J. Jones and Son’s, where seats may be reserved. Extra tickets can be obtained at the Opera House for 3s and Is 6d, plus tax. The full programme appears in another column. Intending members should apply to the hon. secretary, Mr W. N. Willis, Box 170, or phone 3270.
