SOCIAL NEWS. (From Our Own Correspondent.) The second Patea Assembly was held in the Town Hall on Friday evening. The hall was nicely decorated with flags. In spite of the boisterous weather which prevented many from attending, the floor was well filled with dancers. The music was supplied by the Premier Orchestra. An excellent supper was provided, and the supper tables were beautifully decorated with pale pink camcllas and green foliage. Among those presen? were Mrs. Page, Hawera, who wore a frock of black silk and lace; Miss Page, shot purple silk; Mrs. Gibbs, sage green satin and gold lace; Miss Alexander, New Ply* mouth, green marocain; Miss I. Alexander, black chiffon velvet; Miss J. Alexander, coral velvet and brown fur; Miss Bremer, pale heliotrope satin; Miss M. Gower, black lace; Miss Hopkinson, apricot taffeta; Miss Besley, vieux rose velvet; Mrs. D. Palmer, black georgette and lace; Miss Williams, green satin; Miss Johnson, heliotrope marocain; Miss Glenny, pink velvet; Miss Boagey, green radium lace; Miss Taylor, black satin bodice, black and white skirt; Miss Horner, pink satin; Miss C. Hamerton, grey satin and radium lace; Miss Davidson, mole velvet; and many others. The duties of M.C.’s wore carried out by Messrs Roberts, Glenny and Finlay. The residents of Whenuakura have

been holding euchre parties and dance, in the packing room at the Whenuakura Dairy Factory, for the purpose of obtaining funds to build a hall. Tho evenings have been most enjoyable, and have been very well attended, so much so that the committee intend holding them weekly instead of fortnightly, until tho factory opens again for the season. Tho next party will be held on Wednesday July 9. Good prizes are donated to tho winners at euchre, and an enjoyable evening is assured for all who attend. A grand vaudeville entertainment arranged by Mrs. Veronica Edser Varnham, in aid of the Patea Football Club, is to be held in the Town Hall on Friday, July 25. Mr. Whiteford, who for several ycqj. has been in charge of tho Albion Tioest, left Patea with his family, on Saturday, for Pctone. The new proprietor of the Albion Hotel is Mr. Lynch, late of Palmerston North.
