The hounds met at Crofton on Saturday, but owing to the heavy rain tee previous night, there were very few followers. It was an ideal hunting day, but the ground was very sloppy. The hounds threw off on Phillips’ property and a hare was immediately put up, ran up fence line and turned to the right through a couple of paddocks, and then swung round and ran towards the slaughterhouse, followed the creek along through Follett’s, and on to Purnell and Dcighton’s turnip paddock. Here the bad state of the ground puzzled the hounds for awhile, but, hunting well, they soon were on a strong scent. Again puss crossed the road by A. Whale’s house on to Follett’s, going through three more paddocks, and crossed into P. Whale’s turnip paddock. Here the hounds were called off on account of there being too many sheep. A fresh start was made in a grass paddock adjoining, and a hare was very soon started, which crossed into Oldfield’s, then on to Phillips’, turned to the right, and ran on to Follett’s, crossed the road and made for Follett’s, doubled back across the road once more, on to Follett’s, and then made for a green lane, and followed the road for half a mile. It then ran on to P. Whale’s, swung round to .he right on to Follett’s, and then on to and cTO&r-fd the road onro more. * The hounds ran exceptionally

Smith (War Loan)? J. Whale (Blue Boy), P. Windleburn (a grey), and several others. TE KAWAU RUGBY SUB-UNION. SANDON BEAT AWAHURI. Awahuri and Sandon seniors met at Sandon on Saturday and another close game resulted, a feature that has been somewhat remarkable in the whole of the competitions in the sub-union.
