BOWLING

THE TESTING PROBLEM (Per Press Association). AUCKLAND, July 1. Bowl-testing was discussed at the annual meeting of 'delegates to the Auckland Centre of the Dominion Bowling Association. Mr Thomson, one of the delegates to the Dominion Council, outlined the events at Christchurch last January. He referred to the two tests made at the instance of the Dominion Council. One was a green test and the other a table test. The reports showed that in both an Auckland bowl was found to be the narrowest in the Dominion with one exception, but in face of these reports he was prepared to state that the Auckland bowl compared favourably with any bowl in New Zealand. He considered the only test was the table test. South Island bowlers were in favour of the green test, and all the North Island in favour of the table test. Both islands had equal representation on the council, and the present position was that the island in which the annual meeting was held had the advantage, the chairman having the casting vote. Mr Thomson concluded by saying it was quite certain that the next meeting would carry the table test. President Hardley said this was a most vital question. There was a very largo number of bowlers in Auckland. If all bowls had to go over the table to be, tested, aud perhaps altered, it would be a very serious matter. It was decided that the matter be left to the incoming committee.
