VALEDICTORY
MR. E. J. FOSTER. The Labour Party’s foDms were well filled last evening with members and friends assembled for the purpose of saying farewell to Mr. and Mrs. E. J. Foster, who are leaving Wanganui for Napier. The gathering was of a social nature, and speeches were interspersed with musical items and dances. Mr. James Ross, president of the local branch of the Labour Party, presented Mr. Foster with a handsome gold watch as a mark of the esteem in which he was held. Mr. Ross referred to the sterling qualities of the guest of the evening, and gave a resume of his activities on behalf of the Labour movement in Wanganui, the success of which was evidenced by the stronger position in which Labour found itself to-day. Mr. Foster had promoted the social side of the movement to a wonderful extent. His departure was Wanganui’s loss and Napier’s gain. Messrs Rogers, Clark and Duggan referred in glowing terms to the work accomplished by Mr. Foster.
