A DEADLOCK

AT DEMOCRATIC CONVENTION INEFFECTIVE VOTING. Received July 1, 9.25 p.m. NEW YORK, June 30. After the recess balloting was resumed with deadening monotony. Fine and efficient manipulation of votes showed that the leaders were permitting slight variations in order to maintain popular interest, but nothing really decisive was yet to occur. Mr McAdoo reached 477 votes, Governor Smith 303, ex-Ambassador Davis 64, Mr Cox 60, upon the thirteenth ballot, and since 732 of the 1098 total votes are needed for a choice it is evident nothing outstanding happened. The Convention adjourned at midnight afer the fifteenth ballot, which gave Mr McAdoo 479, Governor Smith 305, Mr Davis 61, and Mr Cox 60. This day spelled deadlock, and no one dares predict how long this will continue.
