PARLIAMENTARY NOTES
FORMAL BUSINESS TO-DAY. TO-MORROW—THE BATTLE. (By Telegraph). [From Our Parliamentary Reporter.] WELLINGTON, June 30. The House of Representatives will assemble to-morrow afternoon, when formal business will be transacted and reference will be made to the services rendered to the country by deceased legislators. An adjournment will then be made until Wednesday evening, when the Address-in-Reply debate will be opened by Mr J. Bitchencr (Waikato). It is expected that the debate will be somewhat prolonged, as in addition to the non-confidence amendment by Mr Wilford, it is likely that the Labour Party will keep things moving with a series of further amendments. The general impression is that the Government will not be defeated on a no-conlidonce amendment and that it will retain its majority of three. Mr F. J. Rolleston was not present at the Reform caucus last week, but no significance is stated to attach to this. In any case, he voted with the Government on the amendments moved during the debate on the question of salaries in the Public Service, so that for the present anxiety as to his attitude appears to have been relieved.
