THE CITY

In accordance with notice duly gazetted, Wanganui from to-day ranks as a city—a little city, perhaps, as cities are reckoned by their multitudes, but still a city of no mean proportions and splendid prospects. Having put on our new raiment, let us see that we wear it with dignity and honour, taking care to worthily uphold the highest traditions of British citizenship. With our goodly heritage we have a boundless opportunity and a great responsibility. We can do justice to both by manifesting in all our enterprises, public and private, the true spirit of civic patriotism and community service. There is no citizen, however circumstanced, who cannot do his or her part to enhance the prosperity and upbuild the reputation of the city.
