Firpo and Tex Rickard’s representative (Hains) signed a contract for a Firpo-Wills fight, to be staged at New York or New Jersey about August 30. NEW JERSEY GIVES ASSENT. According to a telegram from Trenton, New Jersey State, Athletic Commissioner Newton approved the articles of agreement between Firpo and Wills
for a bout in Boylo's Thirty Acres on August 30. It is announced that as the bout will lead to a championship fight, the promoters will be permitted to charge the maximum admittance of twenty-five dollars, plus tax. The announcement settles the question whether the New Jersey Commission sanctions mixed bouts. Firpo is guaranteed 100,000 dollars, with the option of 374 per cent, of the gate receipts. Firpo sails for the United States not later than July 5. GLEESON KNOCKED OUT BY BUTCHER Received June 29, 5.5 p.m. SYDNEY, June 29. At the Stadium, Eddie Butcher easily defeated Pat Gleeson, knocking him out in the sixth round after a hard slogging contest.
