INVERCARGILL FIRE

CAUSED BY CIGARETTE BUTT. INVERCARGILL, June 28. An inquiry was held before Mr Cruiekshanks, S.M., regarding the fire at the British Imperial Oil Company’s store. After lengthy evidence, His Worship said ho thought the fire must be accounted for by the theory of the inspector, namely that it was caused by a cigarette butt burning through Smith’s pocket on the top floor. There was no negligence on the part of the company.
