WIMBLEDON TOURNAMENT LONDON, June 24. The Belgian, Washer, defeated the New Zealander, Allison, 6—4, 6—3, 6 AUSTRALIANS PROVIDE SENSATION. Received Juno 25, 11 p.m. LONDON, June 24. Bayley and Williard, the Australian Olympic tennis players, provided a sensation at Wimbledon. In matches against two leading Britishers, Bayley beat Lycett 7—5, 6—4, 3—6, 6—3. Williard had bad luck in his match against the Davis Cup member, Wheatley. He appeared to have the game well in hand, when he developed severe cramps in the deciding set and was compelled to retire, the mateh thus going to Wheatley 4 —6, 7—5, 5—7, 7 2—l. Wimbledon has not seen finer tennis than Laeoste defeating Manuel Alonso, 2—6, —..2, 13 —15, 6—3, 6—l. Laeoste was versatile, playing brilliant passing shots, and was untiring. Alonso put in magnificent forehand net work and volleying, but tired after the third set. Three Americans—Hunter, Richards and Washbarn—entered the third round, likewise the Britishers Gilbert, Kingscote, Greig, Leighton, Crawford and Wheatley. The Frenchman, Jean Borotra, beat Woosnam, 6—3, 7—5, 2—6, 6—4. In the ladles’ first round, Mdlle Lenglen beat Miss Lumbey-Ellis, 6 —o, 6—o; Miss Wills beat Miss Scharman, 6 —l, 6 —o; Miss Ryan beat Mrs Bouverio, 6—o, 6—o.
