FORGERY

POSTAL OFFICIAL’S LAPSE. (Per Press Association? • , WELLINGTON, June 25. Percy Reginald Sutherland, 26, was committed for sentence for forging a Post and Telegraph voucher for £2O 19s 4d. It was stated that accused had a record for work above the average employee. Lately he had given way to gambling and dissipation. He made out a voucher for freight alleged to have come overseas and forwarded to Wairoa. It was taken to the room of stores manager. Accused waited while the storeman signed it. Apparently the voucher was not checked, for it was taken to the accountants’ branch, where accused arranged for authority for a payment stamp to be attached. He presented it for payment at the money order office, where the vouchee was cashed. Accused said he had n-i accomplices. He worked out tiu scheme himself.
