STEER ROPING

THE PROMOTERS IN COURT. LONDON, Juno 24. Twenty-three Magistrates were on the Bench in the Courthouse at Wealdstone which was crowded with cowboys and cowgirls, when the Rodeo steerroping summonses were heard. Sir Curtis Bennett prosecuted, and Sir Marshall Hall defended. The prosecution submitted that steers were not captive animals, but domestic animals, therefore anyone hunting them in an enclosed space was subject to penalties under the Protection of Animals Act, 1911. The case was adjourned till Monday owing to the illness of an important witness for the prosecution.
