OVER-POPULATION

“BLOT ON THE FLAG.” GENERAL BOOTH HITS OUT. (Sun Special.) LONDON, June 15. General Bramwell Booth has returned from his world tour. In an interview with the special representative of the Sun he said he had a great time in Australasia, where the Salvation Army was progressing in every way.

“Whatever may be the case in Europe,” he said, “the Army is better understood, trusted, and supported in Australasia than ever. lam raising higher still the standard of devotion to God and service to our fellow men. I am greatly exercised about the better distribution of people within the Empire. The congestion under the Union Jack is a blot on the flag, a scandal of politics, and a disgrace to humanity. What shall be said of governments which do not help overcrowded people to settle in new lands mainly populated by rabbits? “One of the most melancholy facts of modern life is the disposition of people in possession, whether of widespread lands, opportunities for labour or particular industries, to exclude their fellow men. Next to saving the people by God’s grace, the most important task facing the rulers is the transplanting of the people. “The Salvation Army is doing what it can, and will do more. Australia and Canada jointly might easily solve the problem, thereby enriching themselves beyond the drcams of the oldest inhabitant. ’ ’
