PORT LYTTELTON DETAINED. , SYDNEY, June 23. A bill of detainment has been served on the steamer Port Lyttelton by the Department of Navigation and the vessel is unable ta -leave Sydney till this is lifted. During the past fortnight the ship has been undergoing a minute examination by divers. ALABAMA UNABLE TO SAIL. MELBOURNE, June 24. As the result of the action of the Seamen’s Union, the steamer Alabama is unable to leave with a crew of Chinese coolies. The Minister of Customs has given instructions that the existing regulations must be adhered to. The Alabama is an Australian registered vessel, and must, therefore, be manned under Australian conditions. The shipping master refused to permit the Alabama to sail with the crew as constituted at present.
