A London cable announces the death of Sir Mortimer Durand. The deceased, who was born in 1850, had a distinguished diplomatic career. He was political secretary to Lord Roberts during the Kabul campaign in 1879, and was Foreign Secretary in India from 1884 to 1894. He was Minister at Teheran from 1894 to 1900, and subsequently was Ambassador at Madrid and Washington.
