SCHOOLBOY KILLED.
THROWN FROM HIS HORSE. FATALITY AT TARATA. A boy named Wilfred Arnold Wicksteed, aged 12 years, was accidentally killed at Tarata on Wednesday morning. He was on his way to school when his horse stumbled, throwing the boy On to the road and then falling upon him. The boy, who was a son of Mr L. A. Wickst'eed, a dairy farmer of Tarata, left his home shortly before nine o’clock on Wednesday morning on the way to school. His sister accompanied him, both riding on the same horse. About a mile from home, and 14 miles from Inglewood along the Junction Road, the horse stumbled on a steep hill near a sharp bend. It landed on its head, throwing the girl clear, and then fell over pinning the boy underneath with all its weight on his stomach and chest. Another boy, who was riding some distance ahead, saw the accident and went for help to Mrs Topping, who lives about three chains away. Mrs Topping hurried to the scene only to find the boy had just expired. Death was apparently due to suffocation.
