FLIGHT ACROSS THE POLE

The Daily Mail’s Borne correspondent States: Amundsen and all his companions will fly ir three seaplanes in June from Pisa to Spitzbergen. The, seaplanes are constructed of a new alloy not affected by long immersion in sea, and they will be able to withstand severe buffeting by waves. The aviators will practise for a month at Spitzbergen and then set out on a journey over the Pole for Alaska, 1750 ifliles, which is beyond a single machine’s capacity without revictualling. Each machine will carry sufficient petrol for sixteen
hours. One will transfer petrol to the others, leaving sufficient for the return ' to Spitzbergen. The other two will continue northwards, and descend after eight hours. One will then be abandoned after transferring its fuel to the remaining machine, which, with four men aboard, will attempt to reach Alaska in a ten-hour flight.
