EASTBOURNE HORROR
LONDON May 5. Detectives who are investigating the Eastbourne horror, during the night called up several vessels bound for South Afrfica, in consequence of information that Miss Kay told a friend at the end of March that she would soon be marrying and going to Africa. She is fair,, with bobbud hair, and was last seen in the bungalow on April 12. Apparently the inquiries were resultless. because, after all day long inquiries, the police announced that they were satisfied the victim was M;iss Kay, whose occupation was a book-keeper. The police are digging up tne bungalow garden in the hope of discovering the victim’s missing head. There is no trace yet of a darkhaired woman who also visited the bungalow. Patrick Mason, the detained man, was known to have a wife, for whom the police are seeking. DEAD WOMAN IDENTIFIED. A MYSTERIOUS LETTER. Received May 6, 8.30 p.m. LONDON, May 6. The Daily Express says: Mr De Beilby, a veterinary surgeon, of Hailsham, near Eastbourne, says the dead woman’s correct name was Emily Beilby Kaye. She was his cousin. Her parents died when she w r as a child. She spent a holiday of three weeks in August with Beilby and his wife. She also wrote from a club frequently. Beilby was surprised to receive a letter three weeks ago saying she was engaged and intended to be married in Capetown, where her fiance had obtained a post. Beilby wrote immediately, asking her to visit him before her departure, but received no reply.
