FIGHTING IN AFGHANISTAN

OUTBREAK BY MOHAMMEDANS. DELHI, May 4. Advaces from Peshawur state that opposition among the tribes in Kohat has been aroused by certain reforms put into effect by the Amir of Afghanistan, which are looked upon as interfering with Mohammedan law. The result has been an outbreak of hostilities. It appears that Mangal and Ladran tribal forces ambushed an Afghan regiment and captured their rifles and ammunition. This was followed by a general outbreak. . .It is reported the rebels either forced or persuaded some smaller Afghan outposts to surrender. They also attacked Afghan regulars at various points. The Afghan troops are said to have gained some successes. Reinforcements have been despatched.
