CHAMBER OF COMMERCE

MONTHLY MEETING.

The monthly meeting of the nui Chamber of Commerce was held last night, Mr W. Brown presiding. CORRESPONDENCE. The following correspondence was dealt with: From the Prime Minister, acknowledging receipt of the chamber’s communication, supporting the Wellington Chamber’s resolution, in respect to the appointment of a standing Imperial Economic Committee. It was stated that the representations had been trans mitted to the Imperial authorities.— Received. From the Prime Minister, in reference to naval matters, advising that the chamber’s resolution on the subject would be considered when the naval estimates were under review.— Received. From the Borough Council, in reference to the compulsory destruction of hay, straw, and chaff, introduced Ml packing for imported goods, and pointing out that the borough engineer had reported that ho could remove and destroy such rubbish within 24 hours. The chairman made mention of the fact that thousands of dollars wort! of stock had died in America recently as the result of foot and mouth di sease. He had no doubt that the di sease had been introduced into tha. country by means of packing. The letter was received.
