PRICE OF CHOCOLATES
QUOTATIONS AT BEDROCK. With reference to the Press Association message, and the statements made regarding a fall in the price of chocolates, the position would appear to have been inaccurately stated. A “Chronicle” representative called upon the Southern Cross Co. yesterday "* and was informed that any talk a drastic cut in chocolates is ttely to cause a false impression amo.sg confectioners. The facts are that sAue months ago the New Zealand manuActurers reduced the price of small foxes to prewar prices, and that they fire now supplying an article supenoe in quality, and fresher, than the imported article, and at a price far below what it can be imported for. Last month a further cut was made in the cost of tablets, which must result in putting the imported article out of the market as regards price. Regarding other confectionery, such as chocolates, the price ia now at bedrock, and is cheaper by far than any imported lines. Manufacturers have decided not to increase their prices in spite of there having been two rises recently in the cost of sugar, totalling over £4 per ton, since these reductions were made.
