PUBLIC NOTICES. THE MAYORAL ELECTION To the Burgesses, Ladies and Gentlemen, —I desire to respectfully place before you my views on municipal matters, all of which will have my best efforts if you honour me with election on Monday next. 1. —To bring to a satisfactory conclu- ■ sion the Amalgamation proposals, which have given me as Deputy-Mayor and 1 my Council an immense amount of ’ thought and work during the last twelve months, and which I am keenly anxious to pilot to completion. 2. —The completion of the re-organisa-tion of the Borough departments. This very important work is now being pro- 1 cecded with in anticipation of amalga- . mation. 3. —Urgent streets improvements by a ; well-considered comprehensive roading policy. This policy is now in hand. If ' given effect to will not mean an in- ' creased rate. 4. —Further development of the Reserves. As chairman of Reserves Committee I take pride in the work done, especially at St. John’s and Aramoho. I now have in hand a progressive policy for submission to the sports bodies. ‘ In this connection I firmly oppose any encroachment on the Racecourse reserve for commercial purposes. Arrangements to develop and lay out the Gum Plantation are now completed, and the work will commence at once. 5. —The completion of the Okehu water contract which has been entirely prosecuted during my term as De-puty-Mayor. 6. —The early completion of the building of the Alexander Museum and Library, which during my term as De-puty-Mayor I have got well in hand. 7. —To carry out the proposals of the gas engineer in the direction of a reduction in the price of gas. I make no apology in taking some credit for the success of this department. 8. —The completion of the extension of Ridgway Street into Gonville which the authorities have indicated will not be longer delayed and for which work all plans are now in order. 9. —To bring to a satisfactory conclusion the very important discussions between the Borough and the Power Board in regard to both our power supply and reticulation, and to generally safeguard the interests of the ratepayers in regard to this very important and difficult question. 10. —To complete the negotiations to convert the present Opera House picture management into an entirely municipal enterprise. This matter has had my personal attention and supervision for some years. 11. —To generally conserve the interests of our Borough, by a progressive yet prudent policy and to engender as far as possible a true civic spirit among the people. In conclusion I respectfully desire to mention a few of the public positions I have held among you over a long period of years. Many years a Borough Councillor, Deputy-Mayor and Justice of the Peace; member of the Girls’ College Board Trustees; deputy-chair-man of the Board of Governors of the Technical College; twenty years member Licensing Committee; Council representative and chairman of the Wanganui War Memorial; patron and many years active member Male Choir; trustee and many years active member Garrison Band. In view of this long record of service I make no apology in respectfully asking you to support my candidature at the forthcoming Mayoral election. Obediently yours,' J. C. RICHARDSON.
