SHOCKING FATALITY

PETROL USED FOR FIRE WOMAN FATALLY BURNED The danger of using petrol lated spirit to coax the kitchen fire was illustrated in a shocking manner at Flemington, when a young married woman, M. V. Bartling, received burns from which she died, says a Melbourne paper. The accident happened at Mrs Bartling’s home in Cashmere Street. Mistaking a bottle of petrol for kerosene, the woman commenced pouring it on the fading coals. Immediately there was a great flare, amounting almost to an explosion, and Mrg Bartling was enveloped in flames. She rushed outside with her clothing ablaze, and was shockingly burnt over the face, hands, and body before help came. The St. John’s Ambulance rushed her to Mena Hospital, where she died.
