Among the passengers on the P. and O. liner Moldavia, which arrived at Colombo a fortnight ago on her way from Australia to London, is the noted Australian tennis player Norman Brooks. Discussing the team which had been chosen to represent; Australia in the Davis Cup matches, Brookes expressed the opinion that the Australian team would not stand the slightest chance ,of winning, and might not even get into the challenge round. He added that in view of the fact that J. O. Anderson is unable to join the team the vriser course would have been for Australia to have withheld from challenging until next year. Speaking of the two younger men in the team, Brookes described Schlesinger as one of Australia’s most promising players, and one who had a fine temperament for play in big events. Kalms also, he added, was an extraordinarily fine player of the greatest promise.

"Of the old players,” said Brookes, "Patterspn is at present below his proper form, while O’Hara Wood is off. colour as the result of having trouble’ with his shoulder, and it is doubtful whether he would fully recover from the disability before the Davis Cup contest begins. "Altogether, I have no reason to believe that the result can be anything other than a victory for the Americans.

Anderson is the only menace to American supremacy, but he is unable to play owing to the fact that the authorities refuse to compen- 1 sate him for his loss of business profits during the tour, holding that this ( would constitute a breach of amateur 1 rules.’ i
