A stalwart worker in his , own church, to which he gave of his best, Mr. Carson never failed to show a sympathetic interest in the well- , being of other denominations, and only a few days before his death, in conversation with the speaker, he had requested to be kept in touch with the activities of St. Paul’S. A correspondent to the Hawera Star writes: The death of Mr. Gilbert Carson, of Wanganui, removes one of the few remaining connecting links between the old-day comp, and the pre-sent-day lino, operator. Mr. Canon was on the Government Printing Office staff in 1870, and I had the pleasure •f working in the samo room with , him. Others there at the same time " were Messrs James Kenworthy, George Fisher, J. P. Leary, G. W. Russell (then a boy), and Kirkbride. AH these men afterwards made their mark in journalism, and were evidence I of th e sterling qualities of the earlyday compositor.
