BUSINESS NOTES.

SALE OR HORSES, VEHICLES, HARNESS John Coull gives particulars in our auction columns to-day of a sale to take place at the Rutland Stables, St. Hill Street, on Saturday beginning at half-past one. There will be a good offering of horses of all kinds and ponies, assorted vehicles which include two express waggons, rubber-tyred and other gigs, a Ford 12cwt. lorry, also a good asortment of harness of all kinds, and saddles and bridles. This offering will be on view this morning, and readers are again reminded that sale starts at half past one, when a good attendance is anticipated.

The executors of the late Bland Rayner, one of the most noted breeders of Lincoln and Romney sheep in the Wairarapa, have instructed Messrs Wright, Stephenson and Co., Ltd., and the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., to disperse the late Mr Rayner’s stud flocks. The sale, which will be an unreserved one, will be held on the Masterton showgrounds at Solway, Masterton, on Tuesday, sth February. This is the day following the annual stud breeders’ sale at Masterton. There will be sold the complete Romney stud, approximting 725 head. This is a very select stud, and is headed by the noted ram, Penrose B 242/18, which is the sire of the record priced ram hogget which sold at the last Masterton fair under the hammer for 340 guineas. This sale should create unusual interest amongst breeders. Catalogues giving full particulars are now available from the auctioneers.

One of the best known and most successful breeders of stud stock in the Dominion is Mr W. D. Hunt, whoso stud of Romney Marsh sheep and Friesian cattle are maintained on his several properties close to Invercargill. Owing to his permanent residence in the North Island, Mr Hunt has recently decided to entirely disperse his studs in February and March of next year. His Romney stud is looked upon as one of the finest in the Dominion, as the owner has set for himself throughout its 15 years’ history an exceptionally high standard. In that time Mr Hunt has purchased for bis stud 899 ewes. As an evidence of the very heavy culling practised, the total offering at his sale will approximate 1500 head. It can readily be understood, therefore, that the Bainfield stud has been bred to a remarkably high standard. A complete history of the flock in catalogue form is now available from the auctioneers, Messrs Wright, Stephenson and Co., Ltd., Wellington. No doubt flock masters in this district will avail themselves of this unique opportunity to secure the highest class of Romneys. In addition to the stud sheep, the annual draft of 380 one-shear Romney rams will also be sold. The sale takes place at Waitoru, part of the Bianficld estates, near Invercargill, on February Bth and 9th.
