RANGITIKEI COUNTY COUNCIL
MONTHLY MEETING. The Council met on Tuesday. Present: Crs. B. P. Lethbridge (chairman), R. G. Dalzicll, A. G. Simpson, W. Doole, H. I). Belk, G. E. Anderson, A. Livingston, A. S. Coleman, and K. Dalrymple. Leave of absence was granted to Cr. Pedersen. COR RESPONDENCE. Inward correspondence was dealt with as follows:- - Miss C. Batten, resigning her appointment in the County office. —Accepted with, regret. Department of Internal Affairs, re Taihapc Borough Council’s amended bylaws relating to heavy traffic license fees.—An opinion is to be obtained from Mr. T. F. Martin, and by-laws amended if necessary. Department of Lands and Survey, stating that the purchase price of Section 98, Greystoke Settlement, for a proposed scenic reserve, was £6BO. It was possible that a subsidy on local contributions would be granted. | Public Trust Office, remitting £lO.OOO of Erewhon Riding loan money. I Public Works Department, stating I that, all bark removed from hardwood (timber aud showing signs of having (been affected by pests should be burned as soon as possible.
Turnbull ami Roberston, stating that Mr. C. W. Wilson will pay the final £4OO for the Turakina Valley Road if the loan is arranged and the loan money expended by the 31st March, 1926. Wellington Central Provincial Executive of N.Z. Farmers’ Union, stating they had no knowledge of any harm : done by Cape daisy. W. Franke, asking for a vote of £3 for maintenance of road from Taurima to his property in Turakina Valley.— Granted.
E. Gilbert, applying for permission to erect a telephone line across Pukeokahu road. —Referred to engineer. F. L. Collins, asking permission to lay water pipes through a culvert on Taoroa Road.—Granted. Hon. E. Newman, asking that barberry be declared a noxious weed. — Referred to N.Z. Farmers’ Union. H. H. Bonnerwell was appointed ranger on the understanding that he must collect all fees and take all personal risks. GENERA L BUSI NESS. The Ohingaiti cemetery is to be vested in a board of trustees to be appointed by Governor. Tenders for contract No. 579 were left in the hands of the engineer and Cr. Livingston. The action of the chairman and engineer in appointing Mr. Nattrass supervisor for the erection of metal works at Kakariki was approved. i The engineer was instructed to effect ; repairs to Man gab oe road. i The overseer was instructed to take a tally of loads carried by motor lorries over Turakina ami Rangitikei bridges. I The inspector is to supply what particulars he can secure regarding cost of |road grading by motor tractor. 1 The erection of a telephone at Kakairiki was left in the hands of inspector )or engineer to arrange. I Cr. Simpson brought up the question iof relieving the engineer of service [work. This will be discussed at a later meeting. Cr. Coleman suggested that the overseer (Mr. Thoms) should take over more of the roads in the northern part of the County, as the engineer had too much to supervise. The County offices will be. closed from Monday night, 24th December, and will re-opeii on Thursday, 10th January. The next meeting of the Council will bo held on 24th January. (Reports of engineer and overseer will be published to-morrow).
