WAVERLEY WAR MEMORIAL

To-morrow, between the hours of 11 a.m. and 6 p.m., the people of Waverley will decide, by vote, upon the form and location of the memorial to be erected to the memory of the men from that district who went to the Great War. Waverley district is one of the most solid in the Dominion, as it is one of the oldest settled, and its settlers have proved themselves to be eminently practical and sound-minded. Their methods of dealing with public questions have always been those of farseoing and non-parochial men and women. In the matter of the proposed war memorial, the district is again following a wise policy: As might be expected, there arc varied opinions regarding the nature the memorial should take and the place it should occupy. In order that there may be no heartburnings or recriminations in the future those eligible to do so are invited to indicate by vote their opinions of the various proposals. A war memorial, if it be true to the spirit of memorial, is a sacred thing, and, that being so, it .should come into existence with the benediction of every section of a community. The Waverley people are doing their utmost to see that this desirable atmosphere should exist, and wc re-echo the memorial committee’s hope that to-morrow’s poll will be of a decisive nature.
