FIRES

(Per Press Association.) NAPIER, July 12. At one o’clock to-day a fire in a shop occupied by the New Zealand Trawling Company, in the heart of the town, caused some excitement. The brigade soon had the outbreak in hand, but the building was gutted. PAHIATUA, July 12. The Makuri Hotel was totally destroyed by fire about midnight. It Is supposed that a defective chimney was the cause of the fire. The building comprised twenty-six rooms, the owners being Dnan Bros., and the licensee Mr N. Woods. The insurances are unavailable.
