PARLIAMENT
LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, July 12. The Council met at 2.30. The Samoa Amendment Bill, Land Transfer Amendment Bill and the Companies Bill were introduced and read a first time The British Nationalities and Status ol Aliens (in New Zealand) Bill was read a second time and referred to the Statutes Revision Committee. In a reference to the Bill. Sir Francis Bell said it was on the lines of the British Act as regards the definition of the persons concerned, but it preserved for New Zealand the right to say who should be permitted tc attain ihe full rights of British citizenship within New Zealand. The Council adjourned at 3.30 p.m. till 2.30 p.m. to-merrow. HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES The House met at 2.30. The Speaker announced that he, accompanied by members of the House, hsd presented to His Excellency the Governor-General the Address-in-Reply to His Excellency’s speech, and His Ex- < ellcncy had been pleased to make a suitable reply. Replying io Mr Fraser, the Hon. Nos worthy said ar invitation had been extended to the Empire Immigration Commission now in Australia to visit New Zealand. He was not aware that there was any hitch, but he would send another cable to prevent any misunderstanding on the matter. Replying to Mr Wilford, Mr Massey said he had much pleasure in announcing that Sir James Allen had been appointed High Commissioner for another twelve months. In icply to Mr Fraser, the. Hon. Anderson said he would introduce a Rent Restriction Amendment Bill before 31st July.
