AMUSEMENTS, MEETINGS, ETC.

HIS MAJESTY’S. "ONE OF THE BLOOD.” The final screening of the entertaining feature “One of the Blood” with Douglas Fairbanks and Marjorie Daw in the leading roles will be given at His Majesty’s Theatre tonight. Comedy, wholesome excitement, stirring action, startling stunts and a really good story make this’ picture of one hundred per cent, entertainment value. There is not a dull moment in the eight reels and there are many very exciting ones. The supporting pictures, too, are most excellent. The motor endurance test is a particularly good film; the Mack Sennett comedy. "Ma and Pa,” is highly amusing and the Gazette as usual is full of interest "MY WILD IRISH ROSE.” On the new .programme which will only be showA on Friday and Saturday, two good features will be screened. "My Wild Irish Rose” is a romantic story of adventure, and ‘Lonely Heart” —a vivid story written around an Indian maid with Kay Lurelle, the "girl with. the perfect form’’ in the name part.

“ROBIN HOOD.” A TWELFTH CENTURY ROMANCE. To the character Robin Hood the star and producer has given of his best. As Robin Hood he is the embodiment in all ways of that notable personality of eight hundred years ago as we of this ultra-modern day would understand and appraise him, while the production itself realistically presents the vivid colour and stirring atmosphere of that romantically adventuresome past. “Douglas Fairbanks in Robin Hood,” represents a real literature of ths screen, genuine and historically accurate in costume and setting, and truthful in every small detail as well as in important basis. It blends facts and fantasy, history, and legend, aud combines the glories of'poetic and artistic beauty with an authoritative interpretation of the spirit of romance and adventure ' prevailing in the Twelfth Century. It gives a vividly real impression of the romance, the conflict of emotions and the aspirations which made so memorable the period in which “Richard the Lion-hearted” ruled. It presents a clear vision of the fundamentals that actuated the leaders of thought and action of a time when the spirit of chivalry dominated as never before nor since. It visualises the drama of life and its living when Robin Hood was confronted by supreme tests of his admirable valour on behalf of the Maid Marian, and the down-trodden, unfortunate victims of a feudal age. It gives, above all, the utmost in entertainment replete with all these qualities of enthralling drama, breath-taking suspense, and wholesome relieving, diverting humour. It is a scenic replica, as nearly accurate as humanly possible, presenting a recreation of life and its environments in those days of knighthood. It presents an historical background gleaned with deftness from all available records in months of the most exhaustive research. The picture will be screened at His Majesty’s for four nights and two matinees, commencing Monday next. The reserve plans are now open at Upton’s Music Depot.
