CLASH IN THE HOUSE
LABOUR PARTY AND HON. PARR SOME INTERESTING MOMENTS (By Telegraph), [From Our Parliamentary Reporter.l WELLINGTON, July 11. Members of the Labour Party clashed severely with Hon. Parr today. “Why doesn’t the Labour Partv come down to tin tacks” asked Hon. Parr. They are always up in the clouds. Their theories are most amiable, but how are they to be applied? One must admit defects in the capitalist system. There are evils attaching to every system, but can any hon. member tell me that, the 10l of the under dog has not been bn proved immensely in the last, forty 01 titty years under the capitalist, system? It is idle Io deny that ever under this most loathed < ipitalist ays tem the working people of the work have made great progress. My beliel is that the capitalist system ‘can b« so improved, so amended, stop by step by the process of evolution, that it will fit the needs of the humblest worker in the community. It should be made a slave to the needs of us—not our master. Labour members: No. Hon. Parr: What have you in place of it? Mr Monteith: Something better. Hon. Parr: They talk about, the socialisation of the means of production, distribution and exchange. That is what they offer. They want tne nationalisation of every ’imiustry in the community. They say this is go ing to bring the Millenium. History has disproved that, the socialisation of everything has made for the benefit of mankind. Mr Parry: You are not serious. Hon. Parr: God forbid that this country should ever go in for the suppression of the press and free speech like Russia. Mr Howard: Don’t forget the system. Hon. Parr: It seems to me idle to discuss people who say mankind is going to be saved by 'the socialisation of the world. I believe our friends the Labour Party will be silting where we are to-day (Labour: Hear, hear), but they will never get here until they mend their ways. Mr MeKeen: We are coming. The Speaker: Order. The Speaker asked that there be n« interruptions, as the previous speaker (Mr Munro), had had a fair hearing Hon. Parr: 'lhe Labour Party will never reach these benches until they haul down this flag of the socialisation of every industry.
