VOLCANIC SENSATION
A REMARKABLE OCCURRENCE LIGHT STEAM RISING OUT OF OCEAN By Telegraph.—Press Association. —Copyright. Received July 10. 8.45 p.m. SUVA, July 10. Captain Davey, of the Tofua, reports that at 10 o’clock on July 1, he -ighted a dense column of steam rising 90 to 100 feet out of the ocean nineteen miles north-west of Nukualofa. Previously the vicinity was always a pale green patch. Now the sea is bubbling two feet high and steam is visible twenty miles. An earthquake occurred at Nukualofa the previous day. It is estimated that the area the steam is rising from is half a mile in extent. . Passengers on the Tofua were greatly interested, the ship being within easy distance for observing the pheno-
