Mr. Vincent Evans, the new erf master of the Wanganui Technical College, arrived in the Dominion yesterday and will reach Wanganui tocay. Mr. Hood, chief Inspector of machinery, is on an official visit to Wanganui. Senior-Detective W. E. Lewis, of Wellington, has been appointed to fill the vacancy caused in Dunedin by the death of the late Chief-Detective Bishop. Detective Lewis, who joined the police force in 1900, has spent most of his time in Wellington At the warehouse of Messrs Abbott, Oram and Co., Wellington, on Friday last, the combined staffs assembled m the office to farewell Mr. Win. N. Johnson, a well-known and popular resident of Wanganui, who has resigned his position as Wanganui and Taranaki representative of the firm after eighteen years' service. Mr. Castle presided, and in presenting Mr. Johnson with a handsome framed illuminated address signed by all members oi the staff as a memento of their esteeui and regard, together witn a piece of Doulton china for Mrs. Johnson, expressed keen regret that the pleasant and happy association with Mr. Johnson was about to be severed, and also dwelt at length on the many admirable qualities possessed by the recipient both in regard to business and socially, concluding with best wishes lor the future and calling for three cheers for Mr. and Mrs. Johnson. Messrs B. L. Salmon and Tom Fox, on behalf of the heads of ments and travellers respectively, also spoke in eulogistic terms of Mr. Johnson as a business man and fellow workers, Mr. Fox emphasising particularly the popularity enjoyed by Mr. Johnson in his district on account of his integrity and manly and upright disposition, all of which qualities had tended to make him a credit to the Commercial Travellers Association of New Zealand. Mr. Johnson, who was greeted with cheers, responded feelingly in a characteristic an forceful speech, expressing his greaA regret at ending the. long association with his good friends, thanking them for their expressions of goodwill, and vfshing them all good luck in the future.
