TO-MORROW’S BIG MATCH
NEW ZEALAND MAORI TEAM V, WANGANUI.
PROSPECTS ARE FOR A FINE GAME. The Rec. ground should suit Mr. Parata’s New Zealand Native team much better than the mud they experienced at Auckland on Wednesday. No matter what the weather conditions are on Saturday the Rec will be in fairly good playing order on account of its sandy formation. The Maoris always give a bright exhibition of Rugby, and with the ground conditions in their favour the spectators should be rewarded with a fine open game. The Wanganui team is a good one, and our backs may be depended on to show initiative in attack and solidarity on defence, with the forwards proving as good as the
The visitors are due to arrive by this morning’s train from Auckland, slips and other hindrances permit ting, and they will be accommodated at the New Criterion Hotel until they leave on Monday. Mr. F. C. Atkinson has been chosen to referee the match, which is to commence it half-past two. There are one or two alterations in the Wanganui fifteen, but these are not official as yet.
The Wanganui Maoris-Taranaki Maoris will play the curtain-raiser at one o'clock, and this also should be a very interesting match. Mr. R. P. London is to referee this game. ACCOMMODATION FOR SPECTATORS. When the plan for reserved seats opened on Wednesday morning there was such a demand for them that the plan was' booked right up within a few hours. Only the new stand was thrown open for booking. The covered part of the old stand, seating about three hundred, will be available to the early comers, as well as the uncovered portion and the new temporary stand erected alongside the latter.
This means that in all the stands will accommodate about 1000 spectators in addition to those who have reserved their seats. To this must be added the long rows of seating accommodation in the open opposite the stands.
