RANGITIKEI SPEAKS TO WANGANUI

It was on the subject of the misrepre | sentations indulged in by certain Lib- 1 eral luminaries concerning the by- 1 elections, and the speaking .was done . by Mr W. 8. Glenn, M.P. The occasion ] was the Address-in-Reply debate, and • Mr Glenn used it to administer a well- j deserved rebuke to two of the chief | offenders. He said: —I give the palm j in reference to these representations/ or misrepresentations to the member. for Wanganui and the member for Stratford, who in my opinion have not added any lustre to their political careers, particularly by descending to unprovoked attacks on the Prime Minister. I use the term “unprovoked attacks’’ advisedly. I can only add to this that when these gentlemen have had the fionour of serving their country for nearly thirty years it will be well for them if they can retire from polities with the same clear conscience that the right honourable Mr I Massey can. One often hears that the member for Wanganui dearly loves a fight, and being a very prominent figure naturally ho is entitled, Mr Speaker, to a place in what is known as the Liberal “Flying Squadron.’’ Whenever there is an electioneering contest we find the member for Wanganui Yet he resents the fact that the Prime Minister who is at the head of the Government, should take part in the Tauranga by-election. And. Sir. he referred to the right honourable gentleman in terms that in my estimation were in very bad taste. So the honourable gentleman who represents Wanganui will not complain ‘when I refer to him. For instance, during the last general election I was very amused when the member for Wanganui decided to put his finger into the Rangitikei pie. Accordingly he visited one of my chief centres, which is very close to his own, and took the platform for the Liberal candidate, who, it is only fair for me ! to state, came out in the last fortnight of the contest.
