PEDESTRIANS A GOOD SECOND. 4 The trials and tribulations that beset motorists were di&cubscd mor© in sorrow than in argcr at a meeting held last evening, when it was decided iu form a Wanganui Automobile Association. The lorry driver —at least the type of lorry driver who callously sticks U> the crown of the road and ignores .1 motorist who endeavours to pa^s—wa* criticised well and forcibly, and oi.e member expressed the opinion that nothing short of prosecutions would make some 01 the lorry drivers realise that roads did not exist iwiciy for their benefit. Another member commented upon the practice of loading lorries so that there was an overhang of a couple of iect on each side, which meant an additional lour feet of tlie road occupied. According to views expressed at th© gathering, jekcuians - the class of pedestrians wlio wander in the middle of the Avenue instead of keeping to the loot pa tbs -were awarded second prize as tlie motorists’ bane. One memlier remarked that in some countries pidestrians who sorted out the middle 01 the road as the most desirable spot lor a stroii were liable 10 prosecution for o .sumling the traffic. One member particularly condemned the bad pravti <• of pedestrians making a diagonal crossing :.t intersections of streets, while am.>ner expressed the opinion that cyclists should be compelled to carry red lights at the back. Finally 011 _• member related a n isiertune ho met with wlicn, in trying to pass some travelling stock. “I am not a 1 armor,” lie said, “and I don’t know u hat to call it, but it was something between a cow aud a calf, and it sat down on the mudguard.” “ W hat sort of a car wen© you driving? ’ inquire I a sympathetic listener. “ A good car,’’ was the reply. “It was a Ford.”
