HOPELESS DOORN
KAISER’S WIFE SAID TO HAVE LEFT HIM. LONDON, April 1. Has the ex-Kaiser’s marriage proved a failure? According to a report published yesterday his bride, Princess Hermine, whose present visit to Germany was undertaken ostensibly that she might see to her estates in Silesia, has actually gone to live with one of her near relatives. “The separation,” says a correspondent of the Yorkshire Evening News, who sends the story from Doorn, “is now complete. . . The ex-Kaiser is one of the most tragic figures in Europe to-day.” He adds that it is more than a fortnight old, but the secret has been well kept, since if it were widely known there would be considerable trouble among the Monarchist organisers, who are very active just now. Only two or three weeks ago Princess Hermine denied the story of an impending separation. She has been the subject of various rumours ever since her marriage, and tales of friction between the ex-Kaiser and his bride have been in circulation since Christmas, when, as the Daily News reported, there was a scandal over another woman to whom the one time All Highest was said to have offered his hand.
