DISASTROUS FIRE
MEAT WORKS BURNED. SYDNEY, May 25. The Sandown meat works, owned by the John Cooke Company, at Parramatta, comprising several weatherboard structures, were destroyed by lire. The damage is estimated at between £lOO,OOO ami £200,000. The fire destroyed large quantities of frozen meat, tallow, and hides, besides valuable machinery. The inflammable nature of the wooden buildings and their contents made the. scene most spectacular. .Some of the buildings were four-storied. The loss is covered by insurance.
