BIG SILVER SHIPMENT
BEIRA, May 20
An attempt by the Banco La Beira to ship £60,000 worth of silver to De Lagoa is strongly resented by the townspeople as being detrimental to the country’s interests. A crowd cut the ropes of the waiting lighter which grounded. The authorities summoned armed reinforcements, which would hold the wharf by force pending another attempt to ship the silver, which is allegedly consigned to Portugal.
