THE ROCK
Perhaps the finest tribute that can be paid to a man is to say: "He has character” It means that his fellowmen have recognised that permanent, unchanging something in him which lends strength to deed and conviction to the word; which does not speak itself, yet proclaims a man's reliability. For want of a better phrase, character might be termed the rock of the soul. 'Like a rock that faces the sea, it endures the mists and storms and icv blasts of life. It is scorched by the sun of experience and beaten by Hie driven rains of discouragement. Ye’ when the mists clear and the storms subside the rpek stands unchanged, unmoved, unassailable,. it is per manency in the midst of"change. Many men acquire wealth, a fee achieve cleverness, and quite a number secure fame; but unless they have the foundation of charactetheir existence is of small importune to the ago in which thev live. l
