END OF THE CZAR

DUMB SPECTATOR. DEATH AT WINDSOR. LONDON. May 4. But few know that the one living thing whidh, had it have been able to speak, could have electrified the world with the tale of the tragic ending of the Czar, died recently at Windsor Castle. It was a brown and white cocker spaniel, whose Russian name was, by a strange irony, the equivalent of joy. It was overlooked by the murderers, and escaped from the slaughter chamber in which

the Czar met his end. The facts, which have been obtained from an unimpeachable source, are that Captain Rodzianko. an officer much attached to the Czar, made a special tour after the tragedy to endeavour io secure any available mementoes of his Imperial master. He learned that “Joy” was one of the two dogs, the other having been bayoneted, which were in the death chamber. It was being cared for by the peasantry when he recovered it. He brought it to England, and presented it to the Empress Marie, of Russia, aud it was placed under the care of a special Cossack servant at Windsor Castle, where it was cherished as the list living relic of Nicholas Romanoff.
