TECHNICAL SCHOOLS
ANNUAL CONFERENCE. LPer Press Association ! WELLINGTON, May 19. At the Technical Schools Conference additional remits were passed as follows: That this board urges upon the Department the desirability of providing facilities for the training of teachers in technological subjects, with the object of increasing the supply of such teachers. The conference of technical schools managers requests the Plumbers’ Board of New Zealand that instead of a general report on the work of candidates for registration for the Act of 1912, throughout the Dominion, separate reports be submitted, the technical school board in each centre at which an examination is held specifying any particulars in which students are deficient, so that fuller instruction may be given in the direction indicated. That this conference of technical school managers and instructors requests the Plumbers' Board of New Zealand to consider seriously the advisability of holding examinations for the registration certificate in two grades, senior and junior students being allowed to sit for the first examination after having served three years at the trade, and for the second after five vears as at present.
A deputation afterwards waited upon the Minister of Education in connection with one or two matters, including handwork supplies, equal treatment for technical school and secondary school teachers, equal staffing of such.
