AMUSEMENTS, MEETINGS, ETC.

HIS MAJESTY’S. FINAL OF PRESENT PROGRAMME. The excellent programme will be screened for the .last time to-night at 7.45. The programme opens with a most interesting number of the Gaumont Graphic. A smart amusing Christie Comedy, “Fair Enough,” follows, and the remainder of the first part is occupied by the Selznick feature, “Wings of Pride,” a powerful drama of political intrigue and modern society life with a colourful romance running through it. Olive Tell is the featured player. The feature after the Interval is a “First National” production of a very high Standard. “Flesh and Blood” is a most unusual picture, boldly original, with a new plot. Lou Chancy, as the crippled father, Edith Roberts, Jack Mulhall, Noah Beery, and in fact all in the cast are excellent. The scenes are lavishly complete, and the scenes of Chinatown are fascinating. Seats should be booked for to-night at the theatre, or by ’phone 863. LASZELO SCHWARTZ. A unique musical event is announced in our amusement columns. On Friday next what is described as a “miniature concert recital” will be given at His Majesty’s Theatre, in addition to the picture programme. Laszelo Schwartz is a well-known name in England, America and the Continent as a violinist and composer of fame. An Hungarian, he specialises in Maygar or Hungarian music, but is equally a master with all composers. Most successful concerts were recently given in Wellington, and Mr Schwartz received the highest praise from the critics. For his New Zealand tour, the valuable services of Miss Etta Field, New Zealand’s foremost dramatic soprano, have been secured, and Miss Evelyn Hardly will be at the piano. The box plan will be opened on Wednesday next at Upton’s. VICTORIA AMATEUR SWIMMING CLUB. The annual general meeting of the above club will be held at the Avenue School to-night (Monday) at 7.45, when it is hoped there will be a large attendance of members and intending members. As the New Zealand swimming championships will be held in Wanganui next season, it is the intention of the clubs to hold their annual meetings early, so as to elect the different committees to manage affairs for the championship meeting. The officers for the season 1923-24 will be elected tonight.
