UNIVERSITY TEST MATCH NEW ZEALAND AND SYDNEY. A DRAWN GAME. Received Mav 20, 5.5 p.m. SYDNEY, May 19. The Rugby match between New Zealand and Sydney Universities resulted in a draw, eleven all. This was the first test game, but the teams lacked combination, and at times play was patchy, with a tendency towards sluggishness. Sydney opened the scoring, Iless’oin landing a penalty from inside the visitors’ twenty-five. The Sydney threequarter line moved off and the ruth ended in Stanley crossing, and Hesslein added the goal. Sydney won most of the scrums, and as a consequence the blacks were called upon to perform much defensive work. A free kick for an illegal tackle gave Diack an opportunity which he accepted. A smart effort by Murray and McDonald took plrv down field, and the latter crossed, Diack kicking the goal and equalising the scores. The second spell was devoid of incident, mostly give and take play. Shoeban, being offside, gave Diack a further opportunitv, and New Zealand led—--11-8. In the last five minutes, however, I’note scored for the blues, but the kick at goad failed, and the game ended— Sydney 11 New Zealand ...... 11 Aramoho Club members are requested to attend training practice at the Rec. to-night at 7.30 sharp.
