COMMUNITY’S GREATEST CURSE
PRESBYTERIAN ASSEMBLY’S VIEWS ON GAMBLING. SYDNEY, May 19. Speakers at the Presbyterian Assembly characterised the overgrowth of raving, particularly of ponies, as scandalous, and the greatest curse to the community. They deplored the growing gambling among women and speakers stated they had known households destitute of food because women used the household money for backing ponies. It was decided to ask the Government to reduce the number of racing days.
